The ELDES Radar Data System (E-RDS) can be used to retrofit an existing weather radar system or, coupled with a modern transmitter and antenna control unit, to build a new state-of-the-art weather radar.

E-DRS includes a complete Microwave and Digital Receiver (IRX/DRX) and Radar Signal Processor (RSP), a computerized Radar Control Processor (RCP) to control the whole radar system (antenna control unit and transmitter), the radar console (MetraConsole) on which the local mode radar control program runs, and a remote-control system to allow unmanned operation of the radar site and the remote control and monitoring of the radar and related subsystems (i.e. emergency generator, air conditioning, anti-intrusion, etc.).

An optional Radar Data Processor system (Metranet II) is available for product generation and display.

E-RDS integrates the following state-of-the-art components:

  • Microwave Receiver (IRX)
  • Digital Receiver (DRX)
  • Radar Signal Processor (E-RSP) to create the polar moments
  • Radar Control Processor (E-RCP) to control the whole radar system (ACU and TX)
  • Radar Console (MetraConsole) to local command and control the radar
  • Radar Data Processor (Metranet II) for product generation and display, and data compositing with existing radar

X-Band Solid State | Dual Polarization and Doppler

From thirty years of experience in the design and development of state-of-the-art RADAR technology born WR-J, the new X-Band RADAR with Solid-State Power Amplifier (SSPA), the result of a scientific partnership and joint developments within the “JUPITER research project”, which involved ELDES with the most important Italian Universities and Research Centres.

Already present on the market with the two WR-Class X-Band RADAR, with Magnetron transmitter, sold all over the world, ELDES accept a new challenge by responding to the demanding needs of a modern market, adding to its product portfolio, a completely renovated RADAR with the cutting-edge Solid-State technology. JUPITER is the result of years of experience gained in previous ELDES radar models and will boast unique technical characteristics and functionality.

Pulse-compression techniques offer increased detection of small precipitations as well as an increased operational range. SSPA (Solid-State Power Amplifier technology offers a lower life-cycle cost compared to classic Magnetron radar systems, with simplified and shorter maintenance activities. Developed to be extremely configurable and integrable with any type of RADAR network and to make the most of the potential of the well-known ELDES RDP Suite METRANET II, the new WR-J will offer top-performance solutions for the most important applications typical of the meteorological RADAR sector.

X-Band Dual Polarization and Doppler

The WR-25XP is the flagship product of the ELDES’ X-Band mini radar family, characterized by a price/performance ratio that is unique on the market.

The capacity to operate in simultaneous dual-polarization and Doppler capabilities make WR-25XP an ideal instrument for the most advanced radar hydro-meteorological application, as well as for medium-scale civil protection uses.

Given its small size and weight, the WR-25XP can even be installed on a light trailer for quick relocation to areas open to hydrological risk, or to areas with high concentration of people for civil protection needs.

Its cluster networking ability allows the system coverage to be extended practically without limit. The resulting image produces mosaics, integrating the data collected by all the sensors making up the network.

Thanks to the use of the latest technology, as well as the capital, installation, and operating costs of WR-25XP radars networks, these are a very attractive alternatives to the traditional high-power, large-size, weather radar approach.

A powerful Linux Workstation, typically installed in the Radar Control Centre or near the radar itself, processes the polar data of the three-dimensional spaces containing the instances acquired by one or more radars. The result is the generation of a large number of reflectivity and Doppler products, usually only available with considerably more expensive weather radars.

Furthermore, by means of the differential parameters measured, thanks to dual polarization, a reliable classification of hydrometeors is possible. At the same time, the Doppler processing allows for instantaneous estimation of the turbulence velocity vectors.

The products can be displayed through a simple graphic user interface; the Metranet2, for immediate use, even by non–experts. The data and weather maps produced can be even displayed through WEB Clients, either supplied by ELDES or third parties. The WR-25XP can be installed in unattended stations as it can be remotely controlled, and it can transmit pre-processed data.

ELDES is based in Italy but thanks to our Service Department, supported by our Distributor network, we can easily reach all parts of the world, ensuring constant support and quick response times.

X-Band Single Polarization

The WR-10X is a valuable tool for real-time monitoring of weather phenomena in areas with complex topography.

It can be used advantageously at both urban and regional levels, or as a gap filler for an existing network.

A mobile version can be deployed quickly in situations where meteorological alerts arise in areas with significant hydrological risks, becoming an important tool for civil protection emergencies.

The possibility of WR-10X cluster networking allows the system coverage to be extended practically without limit. The result is a unique image that combines the data collected by all the radar units included in the network.

Thanks to the use of the latest technology, as well as the capital, installation, and operating costs of WR-10X radar networks, these are an attractive alternative to the traditional high-power, large-size, weather radar approach.

A comprehensive set of the most common radar output data, the so-called “weather products”, is provided with the system, and thanks to the open software architecture, additional or customized products can be easily added later.

The control and display software has a very intuitive GUI and the possibility to be web visualized. The system can be remotely controlled, operated, and tested, resulting in no requirement to access the radar site for standard operations.

ELDES is based in Italy but thanks to our Service Department, supported by our Distributor network, we can easily reach all parts of the world, ensuring support for installation and commissioning, constant assistance and quick response times throughout the product lifetime.

Radar Data Processor SW Suite

The METRANET2 software package is a comprehensive and powerful Radar Data Processor (RDP) suite designed to equip new weather radar systems, or to retrofit existing ones. 

The open METRANET2 architecture offers the most demanding users fully programmable operations with easy integration of “User created Products”. 

The standard output formats guarantee full compatibility with other vendors’ systems and scientific communities.

We have developed a well-equipped technical support department for meteorological radars, able to provide our customers with tailored preventive and corrective maintenance services, directly at their radar sites or through our advanced repair lab.

We have all the necessary experience and instruments to carry out measurements, calibration checks and efficiency evaluations of radar systems.

We can boast the management of preventive and corrective maintenance for most of the Italian radar network. We can directly follow the maintenance of ELDES and third-party weather radars in Italy, and can also reach all sites worldwide with ease.
