Secretary, International Association of Broadcast Meteorologists (IABM); Chair of the Programme on Public Weather Service Delivery with WMO

Meteorologist Gerald Fleming retired as Head of Forecast Division with Met Éireann, the meteorological service of Ireland, in December 2017. He took out BSc and MSc degrees in Experimental Physics from University College Dublin, following which he joined Met Éireann in 1980. For most of his 37 years with Met Éireann he worked as a weather forecaster and a weather broadcaster, becoming a familiar face on Irish public service broadcaster, RTÉ. He is still very active in meteorology, most notably with the World Meteorological Organisation, for whom he has chaired the Programme on Public Weather Services for over about 15 years. He has lectured extensively and conducted
many training courses on weather communication and related matters.
