Advanced Radar Company

Advanced Radar Company

Advanced Radar Company was founded in 2006 by the UCAR Foundation to commercialize a new generation of advanced weather radar and software solutions. We focus on providing our customers with end-to-end systems that are simple to operate, accurate, reliable and maintainable. In addition to weather radar systems, ARC provides advanced Engineering and Scientific services for application specific environmental monitoring and multi-sensor integration. We are proud of our support to a diverse, international, client base across the US, Middle East, Central Africa, and Asia.

ARC operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of Specialty Aviation Holdings Corporation (SAHC) following the acquisition in May, 2019. Building upon the strength of ARC’s weather radar, software and data quality offerings, SAHC provides resources through our network of industry partners in order to deliver the highest quality services for our customers in Special Mission Flight Operations and Weather Radar Services.

The ARC C250P radar is designed for high quality data acquisition and analysis in both research and operational settings. ARC utilizes the NCAR-developed TITAN/CIDD radar product generation and display software, which has been refined through decades of research and operational use around the planet, for both standard and polarimetric radar products.

The ARC C250P has been implemented for studying precipitation variability and Quantitative Precipitation Estimation (QPE) for water resource management. It is an ideal operational system for monitoring severe and hazardous weather in real-time, as well as for post-event research and analysis of severe and hazardous weather and cloud and precipitation formation.

Aregn is a supported open source software platform for weather data processing. Aregn is rooted in the advanced weather data processing suite known as TITAN/CIDD produced by Mike Dixon of NCAR. TITAN/CIDD (now managed under the LROSE repository) has been in use operationally worldwide for over twenty years. ARC offers a secured and tested version of Aregn with custom configurations to meet our customer’s needs related to weather radar and multi-sensor processing, visualization, and product distribution.

Aregn provides a single platform for multi-sensor processing and data integration via an open architecture that removes vendor lock-in common with proprietary systems. Aregn provides an affordable and supported solution with an open source foundation that enables capacity building and collaboration.
